The (Un)Caring Society

The BBC has reported that up to 5,000 carers are going to loose their £58.45 weekly care allowance.

The DWP disclosed that the change from DLA to PIP, along with the associated 'tougher' definitions of a disability, will mean that up to 5,000 carers who currently receive this allowance due to their cared-for loved-ones DLA entitlement, will loose their benefit if their loved-ones do not meet the 'tougher' criteria to be awarded PIP.

However Carers UK Chief executive Helena Herklots said those families affected by these changes faced a double loss.

"The government is now cutting financial support for carers by £31m - meaning that thousands of families now face the devastating double blow of disability and carers' benefits."

She added "This comes on top of cuts to social care services, cuts to housing benefit support for carers who need a separate room to sleep in, forthcoming reductions in support with council tax and thousands of carers who will have their benefits capped - a perfect storm of cuts to families already struggling to care for loved ones."

Once again, we would like to thank the BBC for bringing this issue to the publics attention.

The question we would ask, have things gone too far yet?

  1. One minute they're running 100 metres in record time and the next they're asking for handouts.

The disabled make my blood boil. I resent having to pay £1.40 per litre for diesel, while these people live the life of Reilly.

  2. Obviously you are one of the failed PIP or ESA claimants, so by definition are not 'sick' enough. However I bet you are tired of reading these leftist articles, so feel free to 'vent your spleen' a bit more, we do not mind

  3. I have advocated for many years that Social Security offices should have a crocodile pool beneath them, connected to the interview rooms via a trap door which the staff control. A bit like Monty Burns has at the Springfield Power Plant.

Benefit claimants should be periodically interviewed and if it becomes apparent that they are a good for nothing layabout, or have been cheating the system....the lever is pulled. We could include persistent dog fouling as well.

This is not a dig at disabled people I would like to point out.
