Assault and Pepper

Ashton-under-Lyne Assault

On Wednesday 19th December 2012, a man who was walking home during his lunch break, was approached from behind and knocked to the ground. His attacker then sprayed pepper spray into his face; kicked and punched him then tried to steal his rucksack similar to the one below:








The attack occured whilst the man was walking along Henrietta Street at about 12:05.

The offender is described as a white man, about 40-years-old, about 5ft 5in tall, of muscular build. He wore a dark fleece jacket, blue jeans and trainers.

Police Constable Stephen Whiteley from Ashton Volume Crime Team, said: "This man was approached from behind, pushed to the floor and the offender sprayed pepper spray in his face.
"He was then subjected to a violent assault while his attacker attempted to steal his bag.
"This attack happened in broadday light on a busy street at lunch time. If you witnessed the attack or have any information which could help with our investigation please contact me."

  1. I was concerned at the practicality of the rucksack if it was similar to the one shown. You'd struggle to get more than a marble in it.

    However, yet again GMP are making public appeals to offences that occurred long, long ago. I have trouble remembering what happened last week, let alone last December. If I had been in the vecinity, how can you recall much that may be of use.

    I'm sure there are operational reasons that prevent the appeals for help (on less serious crimes) getting out from GMP more quickly, but surely the moment has passed?
