Controlled Explosion in Piccadilly

The Police today exploded a suspect package in New York Street.  The suspect package had led to streets being cordoned off. Rumours on Twitter are that the suspect package was a laptop computer. This will be hard to confirm now, as it's been blown up.

Rumours that an angry ex MEN correspondant who hated Piccadilly Gardens so much that he wanted to blow it up have not yet been confirmed.

Never knew where New York Street was - here it is on our Interactive Map

On Twitter Mof Gimmers commented:-

"Wow. So Manchester city centre just had a controlled explosion of a bomb.  That's pretty heavy"

Manchester last had an explosion in 1996.  This was uncontrolled and led to severe damage to Marks and Spencers.  It is not believed that the flagship store was damaged in this incident.

  1. Damn, you beat me to it. Although my twist was going to be MCC cut backs to refuse collection had increased fly tipping in the city centre! Git

It's a shame 'Patricia Carnival' wasn't inside the laptop case.

    2. Is it me, or Wot - you had to mention his name. He has not been mentioned in the 'other one who shall remain nameless' for a few weeks, so to make sure people did not forget him, he had a letter printed yesterday

    3. The best thing you can say about him, is that unlike some others, he openly admits to being a racist.

The culprit has been found apparently, and one comment logged at the MEN, so you have parity.

Rumours it was Chough en-route to the MEN city centre redoubt are unconfirmed.
