Vanishing Traditions

It's Friday, traditional day for a chippy tea, but are these traditions vanishing and why?

In days not so long ago, our typical tea was fish, chips and mushy peas, but with the cost of todays takeaways rising rapidly, it has been changed to pie, chips, carrots & broccoli covered in a rich gravy - all home made.

What are you having for tea? Has this changed over the years? Do you expect it to change?

  1. I always try to have a chippy tea on Friday.

When I was a child, it was the only palatable food we got (Sorry Chough mater).

My favourite was a Holland's Potato and Meat Pie (it had to be in that order). I would cut the top off and scoop out the filling to eat it, discarding the pieces of unidentifiable offal.

Imagine my delight when I was introduced the the 'Butter Pie' recently, which is the same thing, without the trouble of removing the gristle.

  2. For tea this evening I've been presented with chicken in a shape (from freezer),roast potatoes (from freezer) carrots, peas and green beans (from freezer).I'll be partaking in a stupidly hot pizza for supper made from a naan bread base.

As a child I had a chippy tea most Friday nights.I'd choose chips and gravy, maybe a sausage. Chips and curry sauce, maybe half rice or a chip muffin with too much vinegar on it(I believe we call them barms this century)

As a part time dieter I try to avoid the chippy at all costs. When I do venture in I enjoy one of those oversized chop suey rolls the size of a pillow.

    1. Oh you lucky luck lady, we cannot get that size of chop suey rolls round here anymore. The only place that sold them has changed hands and now it's little tidgey spring rolls.

Oh I am really jealous, I will have to get you back for that one :)

  3. Have you ever seen the grease ozzing out of a chop suey roll? Just like school dinner's Spam fritters.

Choose chips as the healthy option every time.

    1. You has spam fritrers for school dinner, you lucky lucky barsteward. We had to eat tripe and onions - real mann food, puts hairs on yer chest - which is probably why I am lacking in that department, cause I wouldn't eat them
